Decent chow in Civitavecchia
I need recommendations for lunches and dinners in Civitavecchia. Because of wife's severe mobility problems, Rome is not doable, though we've had many enjoyable visits there in the past.
I've read that the restaurant in the San Giorgio Hotel is quite good. Any comments? Or is there better chow elsewhere in the town?
I just happened to notice the other day, leafing through the 2011 Osterie d'Italia, that they have a listing for Civitavecchia. The book is in my office, however, not with me, but if you check back Tuesday/Weds, I should have had a chance to look it up and post back -- or perhaps someone else will chime in first.
Also, there is chef-run, food-centered agriturismo about 20 minutes east of Civitavecchia. Many people go there for cooking lessons and It serves both lunch and dinners to its guests (and may serve lunch to all comers). They arrange transport. It has long intrigued me, but I can't offer a personal experience of the place and I don't know about access issues. Thought I'd post in case it might work for one of your lunches or as an alternative stay for all your meals within short reach of Civitavecchia.
and here are reports from people who ate many meals there
And I'll post back with that other listing.
Yes, please let me know if you find anything decent in the city itself. I have an old dog-eared copy of Osterie e Locanda d'Italia from several years ago and for CV, it lists only La Bomboniera and the 2006 Gambero Rosso Ristoranti d'Italia just lists La Scalatta where we at lunch in 1998.
