Becco, Tratorria Trecolori, or Carmine's for pre-theatre dinner for 12?
We love Italian and want a moderate place for 12 of us for dinner. Carmine's seems impossible to get reservations even for December (which is when we are coming) and I was going to keep trying but wanted some advice from the people who know which restaurant is best! Thanks and have a great evening!

I've eaten at all three of them, many times. Trattoria is much better than Carmine's and just a cut below Becco, at a fraction of the price and much easier to get into.

I haven't been to the other two, but was just at Trattoria Trecolori this past Friday. Like RGR said, it's solid. The food won't blow your mind, but at this price level, this is a great Theater District Italian place.
I have the photos from my meal here, if you're interested: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cheeryvi...

re: Cheeryvisage
Terrific photos, as usual, Cheeryvisage! I could never pass up their tiramisu. Imo, an excellent version.

I'm not a fan of Becco. In its early days, we had a couple of very good meals there, and the atmospherics were pleasant. Now, the pastas are mediocre; they've jammed so many tables into every room, seating has become uncomfortably close; and the noise level is so insanely high that holding a conversation requires shouting.
Never been to Carmine's and have no interest in going there.
Though it's been a long time since we last ate at Trecolori, we have always enjoyed the food there. Not spectacular but very solid.
