Thanks to everyone that helped me with the different places to eat on the Central Coast, my original post here:

Thurs. went to Firestone Grill, SLO for lunch. We ordered pork rib meal & chicken meal. Tons of food. Pork ribs were good, I liked the bbq sauce. The salad was just croutons & lettuce, better to get the chili. Garlic bread just toasted bread, not enough garlic flavor to me. Chicken maybe 4 big pieces, hubby liked it. We paid for street meter parking $1.25/hr?, but when we parked at the Mission FREE we saw the Mission, then went to Linnea's Cafe & Barnes & Noble. Rushed to get back by 4pm, found out closes at 5pm.

Didn't make it to the Farmers Market - next time maybe

Apple Farm, SLO - didn't make it in time before the 4pm close.

Kelsey See Canyon Vineyards, SLO - $5pp you can taste all 10 wines & fee waived if you purchase something. I did like the Golden Delicious - 50/50 of See Canyon apples (think guy said it's from Gopher Glen) & Chardonnay Grapes. $20/bottle.

Fri:
Giovanni's Fish Market, Morro Bay - first thing you can see once in Morro Bay. Order at the window, pick up in the back window. We ordered a bunch of stuff. If you check in on Yelp save 10% - forgot to do that. Fish & chips - hubby liked. 1/2 dozen oysters - fine. Shrimp cocktail $5 - small shrimp, not the big ones. Seared ahi tuna salad - tuna fine, salad boring.

Red Moose Cookie Co, Cambria - sorry, I sampled most of them, found them just ok & too big. We did get the Peanut Butter one w/ Reese's candy inside. $6/bag for 4 giant cookies.

Robin's, Cambria - Tasty food, went after evening Hearst Tour. Got the salmon bisque - tasty, Robin's salad was nice, I liked the Slipper Lobster Enchilada - only wish there was more sauce. B. got Curry chicken dinner - he liked it.

Sat:
Madonna Inn Cafe, SLO - first time there we didn't expect much. But we liked our food. Ate at their round bar. Got tuna melt w/ salad instead of french fries $13. Tasty. Hubby got an Open turkey sandwich he liked w/ a good coleslaw $13. I got a slice of Pink Champagne Cake - liked it ok $6.95/slice. Anyone try their cookies - $2/ea - Oatmeal butterscotch, Icebox? What about the Toffee Cake or Black Forest Cake?

  1. Thanks for your report. it is really appreciated to get feedback and new perspectives.

I recently returned to the Madonna Inn too after years of scoffing at its over the top kitsch and found they do their classics very well and it makes a good road trip stop between LA and SF.

I always get their pies for dessert so I can't comment on their other items - great apricot pie, banana cream pie and still waiting to try their lemon meringue. My favorite at the Copper Cafe (round bar) is their half BLT and salad with fresh made chunky blue cheese dressing - the salad dressing almost a meal in itself.
