Portland - Dining with a vegetarian

I'm headed to Portland in a couple weeks and looking for some restaurant recommendations. We all love great food, but the one issue is that one companion is a vegetarian. We are definitely not looking for a vegetarian restaurant, just a great restaurant that offers veg-friendly dishes.

I've looked through the menus at Bresca and Hugo's and those probably won't work. Fore Street and Emilitsa don't post their menus, so I can't really judge. Are they veg-friendly?

I know that 555 has veg options, but we've been there and would like to try something new.

Any other recommendations?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

The Green Elephant is a pure vegetarian play and although you're not necessarily looking for that, it's really good enough for non-vegetarians too. Also, since you just "sacrificed" one of your meals for the vegetarian, you can then go to Fore Street and have a great meal while they eat a bowl of mashed potato (which happen to be great). I don't think vegetarian when I try to remember Fore Street or Emilitsa's menus although they probably have something - does the vege eat fish? That opens up a lot. Figa on congress Street is good and has some vegetarian choices. Paciarino in the old port for great pasta. If they do sushi, Miyake on Fore St will blow you away. I have yet to go to the new location but my wife did the 3-course vegetarian omakase at his old location. It was very good ($25 and great presentations) although it really couldn't hang with my 7-course omakase - to die for (it will not be just great sushi). They could also add a maki roll to fill up.
There are a number of other places that do cater more towards the vegetarian crowd but not many in the same league as Bresca, Hugo's. etc. If you do sushi, I'd definitely look into Miyake. It's in that league.

Paciarino has a large number of vegetarian pastas, all of which are yummy, and most of the appetizers are vegetarian too. And then you can head to Gorgeous Gelato for dessert.

Emilitsa is a good choice -- there's always one vegetarian entree, plus the trio of dips/spreads that's listed as an appetizer can make a nice main course too (my husband has done that before). It's a great restaurant overall.

A few others to think about: Ribollita (classic, mostly non-red sauce Italian) always has at least two excellent vegetarian options like white bean ravioli on Middle St., and Boda, the not-your-usual Thai restaurant on Congress St (same owners as Green Elephant). My partner is a vegetarian, and those are two of our "go to" places.

We have a group of 8-10 heading up to Portland on Saturday to take photos. One vegetarian, one vegan in the group...looking for a casual place with good food for lunch. Recommendations?

Green Elephant. I promise no one will be disappointed and they are generally not crowded.
