Good cheap eats along I-25 in New Mexico?

Haven't experienced much of the Great Southwest yet. Will be exploring New Mexico for the first time next week.

Will start probably in Taos, but other than that, will be on or close to Interstate 25, veering off toward Silver City at the end. Looking for good cheap eats, including New Mexico cuisine, and just good eating in general. And we can afford a splurge or two, if you've got a not-to-be-missed nominee. We don't mind spice, grease or hole-in-the-wall ambiance.

Really looking forward to this. Thanks

  1. You'd be missing out if you did not hit the Buckhorn in San Antonio (just S of Socorro) for a green chile cheeseburger - it's been declared the best there is. While the "best" is a moving target and can get you a long argument, the Buckhorn is worth a stop.

Harry's Roadhouse in SF is liked by many, and is right off I-25:

Mary & Tito's is a five-minute detour (just N of I-40) from I-25, and has deservedly won a James Beard American Classic award.

I agree with Erich...Buckhorn and Harry's Roadhouse are both great.

Farther south, Sparky's in Hatch is outstanding - try the BBQ Sandwich or the Green Chile Cheesburger

And when you get to Silver City, the Duck Fried Potatoes at Isaac's are a must!!

        Have a great trip!!

      2. Carlos's Cantina in Belen is always worth a stop. Don't miss the sign on the bar, "No Minors unless Accompanied by Parent or Spouse."

The Arcos Steakhouse in T or C is a good dinner place.

        The Socorro Grill is excellent.

          1. Thanks for all the tips. Wish we could have tried them all.

Buckhorn surely deserves its reputation. Great burger, Frito pie.
Harry's sandwiches were good, soup was better, flan was fantastic.
Isaac's duck fries were ok, I guess. But they do a great eggs bennie.
Also liked Rancho de Chimayo, and in Taos had a nice dinner at Dragonfly.

            I appreciate all your ideas.
