Are there any great restaurants in Staten Island?

TrishUntrapped Oct 9, 2011 07:44 AM

Hope my fellow hounds can help. A dear friend of mine who has limited mobility is about to undergo major surgery. Before that, he would like to have one amazing meal at a restaurant. He lives on Staten Island and it will be too much to go in and out of Manhattan, so he would prefer somewhere local.

The last special meal he had was at Angelina's which was a mixed bag, and expensive for the quality food that was served. (He said you are pretty much paying for the view.)

Can anyone recommend a great restaurant that perhaps serves steak, lobster or just awesome dishes? Price is not the object, but quality is.

Thanks in advance.

    Thank you everyone! My friend was in a strong mood for lobster so he went with his family to Real Madrid tonight.

    Pictured below is what he had: Lobster Parrillada, a broiled whole lobster with breadcrumb stuffing, mussels, clams, shrimp and scallops. He said the seafood was quite fresh and delicious. The group also enjoyed seafood appetizers including octopus, sangria and tiramisu and coffees with liqueur for dessert.

    He said service was friendly and it was good value for the money.

    Several other spots you all have recommended are also on his list. I can't thank you enough!

        Try Bocelli on Hylan it is one of the best on Staten Island. Also Da Noi is wonderful both locations. Trattoria Romana is very good but tight not easy to move around. I did not care for Angelina's or Carols Cafe. If you like Spanish Food, Lobster Real Madrid on Forest in great. I hope this helps. I wish your friend well.

          I'm a big fan of La Candela Espanola.

            Lakruwana in Stapleton for Sri Lankan, The Polish Place in Tompkinsville for Polish home cooking, Enoteca Maria in St. George for upscale Italian home cooking and good wine, and likely some great Mexican and Liberian fare (since there are large communities on SI), though I haven't had a chance to explore those options yet. (Photos and more details re: these three places: http://www.cityspoonful.com/category/...

            )

            Oh, and then there's the pizza -- search on the OB boards for "pizza Staten Island" and you'll get a list of the must-trys.

                I had a very nice lunch once at Trattoria Romana on Hylan Blvd...pasta was cooked perfectly and I remember they had a nice wine list. Worth a look!

                  I ate here once and it was a very nice meal. Definitely get the chocolate souffle if you go. The best of luck to your friend.
