Any thing like the original in the city any more? Steak with spaghetti on the side. Sourdough with chunky salsa. There is just something very comforting about a dinner like this that has been a favorite for many decades for me.

  1. Chunky salsa? Really?

    Original Joe's will be reopening in the old Fior d'Italia space. In April they said it would be October 12.

    In the meantime, Little Joe's is more or less in that same old school. Joe's of Westlake, Original Joe's in San Jose, or Marin Joe's might be closer in style.

          Kind of like Venice where the"new" ghetto is older than the "old" ghetto.

          Last time I walked by Little Joe's at Fifth & Mission it looked very much closed, but it appears it has reopened yet again. This must be about the fifth location since they moved from Columbus. I was a regular patron of the "original" Little Joe's when Paulo was still the head chef and Franco was his sidekick.

          Franco expanded and has kept the place going for many years, but his food never compared with what Paulo produced on Columbus when it was just one long counter.

            Sounds right. In Arizona bruschetta would be chunky salsa, mild.
