dutch oven problems
I have a recipe for zuppa toscana I found online here is the link http://allrecipes.com/recipe/super-de...
I already have all the ingredients ready and set aside but it says I need a dutch oven which I don't have and don't have the time to look for or buy. Is it possible I can cook it in a crock pot?

This is all stove top cooking - frying meat, onions, boiling potatoes, finishing over low heat - and the final result is soup. What is required is a pot that has a heavy enough to fry the meat and onions without hot spots and scorching, and deep enough to take all stock and potatoes. In a pinch you could fry in one pan, and assemble everything in a large sauce pan or stock pot.
You don't need a lid, and it does not have to be oven proof; it certainly does not have to be cast iron, enamel coated, and designer colors.
If you don't have a big enough pot, you could finish it in the crockpot. Same would apply if you want to hold it for a long time. But you have to have some idea of how long it takes to cook potatoes in your crockpot.

re: paulj
I finally purchased a 6 quart Dutch oven and it's one of my favorite, useful things.
Expect to pay at LEAST $40 for a decent one. Mine is enameled cast iron and was $60
A great investment. Easy to clean...mostly just use a soaped sponge.
But they are heavy so be careful not to scratch your sink while rinsing.
