Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Suggestions for lunch with friend who prefers seafood or French Bistro style. Please see preferred neighborhoods

We're going to exhibits at FIT (around 27th and 6th) and one at the Photography museum, also on 6th, about 10 blocks north. We don't mind taking the subway anywhere for something new and interesting. Our last lunch was at Fulton and it was just OK. I'm considering Brasserie as she loves their Moules Frites. We've been to Les Halles a few times. Actually, this is for my birthday, but she is less adventuresome than I am, so I don't mind staying within her food parameters. She'll also eat Mexican, Cuban, Greek, Turkish, Middle Eastern or Asian Fusion, though not Japanese.

  1. Le Parisien, on 33rd St., b/t Lex & 3rd, is a teensy, charming French bistro. The menu includes moules-frites and though I haven;t had them, everything else we've had there has been very good, so I'm sure they would be as well.

Oceana, on 49th, just west of 6th Av., is our favorite seafood restaurant. Superb food, excellent service, and lovely ambiance. Upscale but, imo, worth it!

Le Parisien sounds interesting. Been to Oceana years ago with another friend. When I dine with this particular friend, we stick to a lower budget.

    2. maybe hop the subway to Tribeca and go to Cercle Rouge -- they have good bouillabaise, tuna tarter, crab salad, etc...very pleasant place to catch up with a friend...
