Reasonable places for dinner in Costa Mesa near Performing Arts Center

Best places to eat dinner near the Segestrom Center in Costa Mesa,Orange County. No Sushi or high end places, just around $20 for steaks, American, Mexican, Teppan, or Thai. Thank You.

La Cocina de Mi Abuelita is on Bristol between Segerstrom and Warner in Santa Ana—get the carne en su jugo.

You could probably get out of Andrei's Conscious Cuisine, just down the road on Main St. in Irvine, for $20 a person—but you'd have to either go beforehand (they've got decent happy hour plates) or be quite careful.

How about Shabu? California Shabu right off Baker in Costa Mesa. Mitsuwa food court is a good suggestion if you don't mind it's a food court - Santouka Ramen.

For steak/American, you might try Lawry's at South Coast Plaza:

And I second Memphis for burgers/American:

A $20 steak you are in Outback territory.

Try looking at Marche Moderne, Pacific Whey, George's Thai Bistro and the Mitsuwa Marketplace has several great places including Santouka, Miyabitei and the Loft Hawaiian Grill.

I think 20/head at Marche might be challenging for dinner.

Memphis is a good option or, if Italian works, Pizzeria Ortica is right there.

Anjin for Yakiniku; you might be able to get out of there for $20/person for just food.

Old Vine Cafe would be difficult at that price point.

Obviously the OP couldn't do the OVC tasting menus at that price point. But they could order 2-3 small plates per person, depending on which items they choose

It is a drive, but reasonably freeway friendly, to try La Cave. I would guess 10+ minutes to get from one to the other. They have excellent early bird specials and free corkage. You are not going to compete with Ruth Chris or Morton's, but the steaks are good and the vibe is 100% old school.

Across the street (OK,a little more than just across the street, but close...) is Charlie Palmer's. It is more than you were looking to spend, but they have a 3 course prix fixe menu with beer tasting this week for $35. I had an excellent lunch there not too long ago, and I would consider this.

You have a chain, but I have always found Maggiano's to be at the very least competent Italian, and if you have a bigger group, it is fun to eat family style.
