Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Saturday pre theater lunch not brunch Next weekend

we have 2pm matinee on 45th St Last visits we have done Ma Peche (twice) and Bar at the Modern. Loved them both. Maybe time for something different. We have already booked dinner Friday after Lincoln Center at Bar Boulud and dinner Sat at Gotham Bar and Grille. Thoughts? 2 of us , price not an issue, wine a definite and we are staying at Setai so Ai Fiori a possibility....prefer more lunch than a brunch menu...tapas might be nice. Many thanks.

  1. I had a wonderful dinner at Ai Fiori about 6 months ago, so if you're staying at Setai, you should definitely consider Ai Fiori (it just received a Michelin star).

    1. ellenost's suggestion of Ai Fiori is an excellent one. We've had two dinners there. Delicious food and an elegant space. They serve lunch, not brunch, on Saturdays and Sundays, and many of the dinner dishes are on the menu.

If you want something much more casual, you might consider Toloache. Very good Mexican food. Though it's a brunch menu on Saturdays and Sundays, there are plenty of regular/lunch dishes, which is what we prefer. Friendly, efficient service and pleasant atmospherics.

If you're OK with leaving your hotel's neighborhood for Sunday, try the brunch at Tertulia, a tapas restaurant that just got 2 stars from the New York Times.

I think the Bar Room at the Modern is an excellent choice for Sunday lunch since they serve their regular menu all the time. Our most recent lunch there was on July 4th.

You might consider going to Union Square Cafe. Though they serve a "brunch" menu on the weekend, it contains plenty of lunch dishes.

Though it sounds as if Wylie's food is not quite as way out as it used to be, I'm still not convinced to go to WD-50.
