Dinner for Dad's Birthday

My dad's birthday is coming up in a few weeks and my family and I would like to take him out to a nice dinner. EMP would be ideal with it's amazing menu and wine list but at the moment it's totally unaffordable (for me) and probably booked (maybe next year for his 60th!). So my criteria:

-Saturday dinner (the 22nd)

-Under $50 a person for food

-Excellent, well priced wine list

-Comfortable, lively (but not loud) space

-Italian, American, French, Mediterranean or Tapas (He likes all kinds of cuisine)

-Preferably below 34th St

He currently lives near Boston but has enjoyed places like Lupa and Pylos in the past.

Pylos

I do enjoy going to Cercle Rouge, but I feel it isn't dad's b-day worthy. If you end up going here though, there are several coupon deals on web ($2 for $25 or likes).

I want to recommend Resto or Txikito which are certainly with lively vibe with great food, but the noise level may be bit more than what you are looking for. On the other hand, Mas (Farmhouse) and Tocqueville can be done under the criteria if menu is chosen well to fit the budget, but while elegant and relaxed, it's not "lively." Both of their food are deserving of a Michelin star each, IMO. See if these would work. Good luck!

Correction: I had a dinner yesterday at Mas in the main dining room and it's lively without being loud. The back room has more privacy and is much quieter.

        -- Dell'Anima...rustic Italian in W. Village

-- Socarrat Nolita...paella and tapas and nice wines and fun vibe

-- Scarpetta...wonderful Italian, but a little tricky on the budget...doable, but likely to go over budget including dessert, etc, maybe save it for next year...

-- Cercle Rouge...French brasserie in Tribeca...
