Concord/Manchester NH Area Apple Picking and Lunch

Will be meeting some folks from the Boston area for a morning of apple picking followed by an early afternoon lunch.
The Concord/Manchester area seems to be a good middle point, (we're traveling from VT) Looking for recommendations for a good orchard for "Pick your own apples" and a decent place for lunch following the apple orchard visit.

Thanks for any suggestions, A good orchard would be the 1st priority.

  1. Gould Hill Farm in Contoocook (just outside Concord) has many different varieties of apples and offers pick-your own. Be sure to try their fresh-baked cider donuts.

    For lunch, Angelina's in Concord is wonderful. Their chicken francese is my favorite. I love their salads and bread with olive butter.

      I absolutely second Gould Hill for apple picking. I make the hour drive even though there are places just seconds from my house. The views and atmosphere are great, and I love seeing all the varieties at their farm stand. I haven't really eaten in Concord (mostly bc there hasn't seemed to be much worth the drive), but I did have lunch at Butter's and the sandwich I had was incredible. The bread was so so good and the whole combination just worked so well...I'd love to go back again some time. Never been to the Barley House, but if I were in the area, I'd go for the great beer selection.

        a third thumbs up for Gould Hill, as much variety as Poverty Lane in Leb, NH, and a better view; a picnic there if the weather is good, is very nice.
        Beefsides in concord for a very simple but nice sandwich w/ fries kind of lunch;
        or good soups, deli style sandwiches at either of the In a Pinch Cafe locations in Concord.

    2. I haven't been to Gould Hill. I live in Concord and have picked several times at Carter Hill Orchard. The farm is at a high point in the western side of Concord and has a great view of mountains all around. There is a tower you can climb (stairs) for an eve better view and a guide to the mountains you are seeing. Last time I was there was two years ago. Plenty of varieties. Cortlands and macs mostly this week. If you have little kids, they may enjoy the play area.

      For a casual lunch I enjoy Beefside. I haven't had anything there I didn't like. Even the fish & chips is really good. My favorite is the Black Russian sandwich.

      If the weather is good, maybe a picnic at the orchard? There are a few good sandwich shops in town. Capital Deli has some good ones as does Bagel Works.
