Looking for a cool spot to host a 40th b-day party in Toronto

... with 30-50 guests. Drinks and apps and a dancefloor---I'd like to provide my own music.

Looking for a place that has a private room. Any ideas? Would like it to be in one of the cooler hoods if possible--Leslieville, Parkdale, Roncy etc...

Got married in the upstairs room at Joy about 4 years ago. Loved the space, and the food at the time but they've been through several chef's since then, so I have no idea what they might offer, even since the recent renovation.

May not be a cool neighborhood, but I hosted a party @ Bar Italia in little italy last year. Had the whole upper floor (which made for a private room type of space), plenty of room for a dancefloor plus a small stage with AV equipment already in place. We just brought an iPod and they hooked it up quick and easy. A separate bar upstairs made it easy, and the food is pretty good too!

Hotel Ocho on Spadina. Might not be a cool neighbourhood but it's a very cool space.

I didn't have dinner - only apps. the typical spring rolls, shrimp, mini capreses, etc.

Ocho is a good suggestion. I've been there once and really liked the space. Being able to offer my friends a venue with stumbling distance hotel rooms is nice too. Re: food. I'd only be looking for apps and cash bar. I'm going to look into it.
