Texas Christmas Pickles

I followed a recipe from All Recipes for Texas Christmas Pickles. I used 1 qt of pickles and added sugar, garlic and hot sauce. The pickles seemed to shrink to about half their size. Is that what is supposd to happen ? Should I keep adding sugar and/or more pickles ? Thanks.

This should be over on the Cooking forum, but to answer your question, I've made those and they did not shrink. Not sure what happened with yours, but if you followed the directions and they taste good, does it matter the size? (I know them as "Fire and Ice" pickles).

I googled "Fire and Ice" pickles and there was the solution. I need more pickles. Thank you for your tip
