Amesbury Ale House - Excellent
We went tonight and were very pleased. Nice ambiance - an old building with restored brick walls and hardwood floors. There's a view of the falls on the Powwow river from the back of the restaurant. I actually spent a lot of time in the basement of this building when I was a kid. It was a department store called J.J. Newbury's; the toy section was downstairs.
I had their Spicy Fried Fish Wrap which was terrific, although not that spicy.
My wife had the Haddock Sandwich that was also very good, but she thought the batter was a little bit heavy.
We also shared the shaved onion rings appetizer with bourbon horseradish ketchup, thin cut and crispy - very tasty.
FYI, in spite of what the name suggested to me, they have a full bar.
We will definitely return.
