Maison Laduree New York
I don't know what is wrong with this macaron empire, but whenever I go there and buy things the staff always screws up my orders. Last time I said I wanted to buy 15 pieces, and they gave me a box of 24 macarons and fully charged for it. Today, I told them I wanted 15 pieces, and after I got home I found there were only 12, with a big piece of giant macaron which I never orderd, and even worse the flavours are not what I wanted! I waited for an hour to buy things that I didn't want... Bummers. So be careful everyone, when you go to Laduree next time, be sure to check your bag before you leave the store.

I wish that I could be that person who was expecting 12 and got 15....
I am not surprised though. I have been there twice and it is so chaotic and loud. On both occasions I had to correct the server as she almost placed a wrong item in my bag. I am quite vigilant because I have my faves.
By the way, what do people think of the new flavors? I haven't been brave enough to try them!

So has the crowd calmed down a bit these days? I know the wait was crazy for the opening and a few days thereafter. Also, anybody tried their ice cream? Worth the price? I feel like I should try it as an ice cream addict, but I want to be sure it's worthy considering the price isn't exactly wallet-friendly.

The waiting line is still kind of crazy.
I tried their sorbet and ice cream, and they were pretty good. But I don't see any justification for charging $8.50 per cup. For your info., the sorbet I bought yesterday tasted like it had been slightly thawed once and refrozen, because the texture was a bit powderish.

La Maison's hot chocolate is not exactly too shabby.

Oh, I can definitely see how a mix-up in orders can occur. On both occasions that I visited Laduree (in their first week), once an order is filled, it's placed on the counter with all of the other orders waiting to check out. It is very likely that the cashier gave you someone else's bag. In its first week, there were always a dozen bags waiting to be paid for. I, myself, was very apprehensive that I would be given someone else's order (but luckily I was given the correct bag). I'll be extra careful to confirm that I pay for the correct order in the future.

re: ellenost
ellenost,
The idea of a bag mix-up did occur to me, but since I've not been to the shop, I wasn't sure how that could happen. However, given your description of bags lined up at the cashier, it's clear that it's what occurred in kosmose7's case.
As I noted above, our daughter told us that they are now keeping the number of people inside at any one time to a minimum, which should help to avoid bag mix-ups.

re: RGR
Glad to hear that Laduree is better managing the line of people in the store. During the first week, they had 3 people filling orders, but only one person at the cash register. On my second visit, their credit card machine wasn't working, so paying in cash was a very slow process. Yes, all those bags kept lining the counter which is a possible explanation as to why kosmose 7 received the wrong bag of macarons. The staff filling the orders probably should have written the customer's name on each bag to avoid mix-ups at the register.

re: ellenost
One would think that knowing how great the anticipation was for this store opening, management would have had a plan in place to deal with huge crowds. Obviously, not. At least, not until now.
"...paying in cash was a very slow process."
That's really strange. I've always found paying with cash is faster than using a credit card.

Very bizarre, kosmose7. Did you not choose which macarons you wanted and watch while the clerk bagged or boxed them. Also, did you not check your sales receipt? We've not been to Ladurée, but our daughter and son-in-law bought some there on Friday and brought them to the dinner I prepared in our apartment. They chose the flavors they wanted. Bought 8, paid for 8, and there were 8 in the bag. Luscious!
Btw, she told us that they've changed the procedure with regard to how people on line are funneled into the shop. She said it's making for a lot less congestion inside.
