Just found my long-lost cookie cutters - now ISO great recipe to use them with!

Does anyone have a favorite cutout cookie recipe? Icing/frosting recipe also appreciated. Thanks!

The Rich Rolled Sugar Cookie recipe from the Joy of Cooking is my go-to recipe.I found a link to it here http://www.recipelink.com/mf/31/42108 but I can't vouch for the accuracy of it. You may want to check out the recipe in the book itself. I also use the royal icing recipe form the JOC to decorate them or if I am feeling a bit lazy, I use rolled fondant.

The cookies in the attached photo is a combination of all three that I mentioned above: rich rolled sugar cookie, fondant and royal icing,

Two very good ones, available online - the one at King Arthur Flour, and one from Land o'Lakes. Both handle easily and make a tasty cookie. I make hundreds of roll & cutout cookies at Christmas with a whole bunch of little kids, and these are my two go-tos. The only difference in them is, the Land o'Lakes recipe calls for orange juice. You don't end up with a strong taste of orange, but probably other citrus would work as well.

My hands-down favorite cookies are cream cheese sugar cookies with royal icing. There are lots of recipes online.

Great timing for this question, because my niece and I have been baking gingerbread cookies all afternoon. Just finishing up the dog patch cutters now. We loved this recipe.

My niece turned me onto this blogger for some fun reading and ideas before we got started today.
