One meal on the road from Oakland to Rohnert Park
Yes, traveling that route during a weekday afternoon, without the ability to detour much more than 20 minutes off the road, and no chance for a long meal. But looking for something interesting once I've gotten out of Oakland (unfortunately) and preferably closer to or in Rohnert Park, though not necessarily.
Any recommendations? Dining solo, and looking for late lunch or early dinner. Love chef counters, good ethnic food, and anything interesting.
Thanks!
Humble Pie in Pennegrove is a worthy check-out, though not officially "on the road" but more after you get there since this is only a relatively short drive. http://sites.google.com/site/humblepiepenngrove2/home
Ooops, I see they have now moved to Santa Rosa. Too bad, their funky Pennegrove location was worth the drive. Try the old Black Cat Bar at the same Pennegrove location instead because I think they also serve light food.
Yikes, Black Cat closed too! Dear little Pennegrove- came across this thread for the remaining Yanni's Sausage Grill : http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/722705

I'll second Roy's for fantastic Chicago style dogs and sandwiches. The Italian Beef is incredible!
Sol Food in San Rafael is another can't miss option. It is quick & delicious Puerto Rican fair just off the central downtown exit.

Close by, you'll want to consider options in Penngrove, Petaluma, and Cotati, as well as Rohnert Park. I don't know whether these spots are open at that time of day, but check into

Water Street Bistro
Afendi's Turkish Grill
Hallie's
Rohnert Park:
Shangri-la for Nepalese

Plenty of good recommendations, for something different you might want to try Lagunitas Brewery in Petaluma. The food is decent, fun atmosphere and tour with free samples of beer on the tour.
Nice garden with entertainment in good weather. Details below.

Great idea for the rest of us but poor dimsumfan may have to pass, "without the ability to detour much more than 20 minutes off the road, and no chance for a long meal" let alone a tour.
