Where is a good place to watch SEC football in LA.

I have a friend and his wife coming into town and I need a place to eat, grab a beer and watch the Bama vs. Florida game. Any suggestions?

  1. It would be a little helpful if we knew what neighborhood you were coming from. I'm not being sarcastic, I just mean that if you're in Pasadena, then recommendations in Torrance won't help you much.

I can make some suggestions though for the Westside.

My friends and I watch football in a few places:

Barney's Beanery (the Westwood location). They have a billion TVs and are very good about putting on the game you want to watch. They have over a billion menu items. I had the Texas chili today. It was a good lunch. The booths upstairs all have their own individual TV, so you could watch anything you want. They are flatscreens, too.

I've never been to Busby's in WLA/Santa Monica but some friends of mine swear by it.

For a hole in the wall, Philly's West has good burgers and cheesesteaks. It's small though and if the Phillies are playing it might be tough to get a TV turned to the game you want to watch.

There are several version of The Shack where they show all the games. I prefer the Playa Del Rey version. The Shack Burger comes with a sausage on it. There is also a location on Wilshire, but it's a "Philly bar" so they might be watching baseball on most of the sets if the Phillies are on.

And -- and this will shock some Chowhounds -- I have watched a couple of Super Bowls in Mariscos Chente, the Centinela version. They aren't a sports bar at all, but they have a flat screen and will put on whatever you want. You'll be the only people in there who care about the game, but on the other hand they have really good Mexican seafood.

I really like to watch football, but don't know of any SEC bars in town. I know of a few Eagles bars, a Patriots bar, a Packers bar, a Bears bar, at least one Steelers bar -- you get the idea. But don't know of any college football SEC bars.

Most of the sports bars will put on the game you want, but if USC or UCLA are playing opposite, you might have some competition for the best TV.

Oh yeah, there is a pub on Washington called Joxer Daly (Joxter Daly?). They have decent bar food and plenty of TVs there. I've watched a million games there over the years. If you time things right, you can get really good ramen at Yamadaya Ramen next door before/after the game.

Hope this helps -- considering I really didn't answer the question.

Is this in the location where The Parlor used to be?

This is the old location of the (was it?) Royal Star Seafood dim sum place on Wilshire at 30th Street

        2. re: Servorg

+1 on South. You might run into Auburn fans, though.

        3. Thanks everyone. Sorry I'm just now getting back to your posts but they were definitely helpful. I ended up at Barney's Beanery (i looked it up and saw they had one in Santa Monica so I went to that one). Was an awesome experience. Will have to check out South. Looks like a pretty cool place.

Thank you for letting us know.

I enjoy hearing about what people did after they've posted a question.

Well keep doing what you do. Your response was great. I have plenty of places to check out now. Thanks again.
