Light supper/Tapas style dining near Lincoln Center @ 9 PM...Bar Boulud fully booked

Chances of walk-in seating at that hour at Bar Boulud (bar seating is fine)?
We are a party of three. Glass of wine and appetizers would be perfect.

  1. Salumeria Rosi on Amsterdam between 73 & 74. You'll probably need a reservation, though.

    1. GastroArte (formerly Graffit) on 69th & Broadway for great tapas. You should try to get a reservation there too - ask to be in the tapas room.

I think you have to be in the tapas room to order tapas. Last time I was there, they didn't serve tapas in the dining room.

Wonderful suggestion. We're reserved in the tapas room.

Thanks, boerdough! Great bottle of garnacha blanca and six generous plates of tapas...all for just a hair over $100. Three happily sated diners, outstanding service. Comfortable noise level. We're now fans of gastroarte.

Tell us about the tapas. Gastroarte is across the street from me and I went a few times early on. I thought the combinations interesting on paper and the presentations are lovely, But I thought the flavors ho-hum and haven't returned recently. Perhaps they've upped their game?

How does it compare to Mercat, Casa Mono, Txikito, Tertulia, Boqueria, etc? How would you rank it amongst the other Spanish tapas offerings in town?

                1. re: kathryn

Sorry but I can't compare GastroArte to the restaurants you (kathryn) mention, since it's been a while since I've been to Casa Mono, Boqueria, or Mercat, and have never been to Txikito (although it's on 'my list') or Tertulia. I must confess that I live a block from GastroArte so that gives it an extra star, but that said, we're always happy after a meal of tapas there, and find their Sangria a class above most others. Glad to hear that famdoc wasn't disappointed.

            2. You could try the bars at Lincoln, Picholine or Boulud Sud. The bar at Telepan is also quite nice and usually not crowded.

You can sit at the bar at Lincoln and order drinks and some food (not a full dinner)? DH and I wanted to do that prior to seeing Tony Bennett and we thought we couldn't so we didn't even try. Now I'm bummed. I'll have to keep that in mind for next time.

I believe that if you're seated at the bar you can order from the full menu but you don't have to order a full dinner. If you're seated at one of the small cocktail tables, you can only have drinks, no food. It's probably best to call the restaurant for any changes in policy.

Thanks for the info. Definitely something to keep in mind the next time we're there for a performance.
