Dinner in Santa Monica on a Monday Night

My husband and I will be staying in Santa Monica on Monday, October 10 after coming back from a trip in NYC. We're spending the night before heading back up to Santa Barbara.

We love Fig, but they aren't open on Mondays, darn it! Any recs in Santa Monica are great appreciated. We eat everything. We would like to avoid Italian and sushi, since we'll be having that over the weekend in NYC.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

  1. Monday night is burger night at Rustic Canyon. Their full menu is available as well, but they offer a specialty burger along with their regular burger, et at. (judged the best roast chicken in L.A. by Exilekiss in the "Battle of the Roast Chicken) See here: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/773214

+1 for Rustic Canyon. Had dinner there last night and we shared around 10 dishes and every single one was a winner. I just love their fried cauliflower. Great farm to table California cusine.

Wienermobile and Servorg - we got a reservation at Rustic Canyon for Monday night. It looks like it will be a great meal, very much looking forward to it! Thanks for your recs and always sounds advise. I will report back.

Try lots of small plates including their Crispy White Polenta with wild mushrooms, sunny-side farm egg and parmigiano-reggiano and also the Squash Blossoms with goat cheese and mint . You will truly enjoy your meal.

Great advice. The smaller plates all look fantastic. Will go with your recommendations, although I think I need to find room for their roast chicken as well!

Ah, this looks great. The review by Exilekiss has my mouth watering for that chicken. It's one thing I never order out because it always seems to be a disappointment, but perhaps this may change my mind.

      3. JiRaffe (5th and Santa Monica) is a good choice and, on Mondays, it offers a three course bistro menu in addition to the regular menu.

JiRaffe is a little pricey for what they offer, IMHO. We had a dinner there last year and while fine, I don't think we would return.

Felt exactly the same way you did about JiRaffe about 8 years ago. Have not returned since.

        2. Stella Rosa pizza is the current go-to pizza place on West Side. Just sent my sister there, has high standards for thin-crust. She loved it.

          1. Note that Mon. Oct. 10 is in the second week of DineLA. This may cut in either direction for you, since some enjoy the discounts, but others don't like the menus or the crowds and disruptions.

I like the lunch offerings at Ocean Avenue Seafood and Wilshire, but their dinner DineLA menus are pretty similar at the higher price. Anyone know if Wilshire is still offering the $15 dinner plates in the bar area? Chinois is part of DineLA, and always worth considering, an oldie but very goodie.

DineLA weeks are great with us - and the lunch offerings at Ocean Avenue Seafood look perfect for a Tuesday lunch before heading back up the coast. $22 for their three coarse lunch is a deal! We haven't dined there yet, so this seems like a no brainer. Thank you Nosh!

            2. I always enjoy a stroll around Third Street then popping into Hillstone for some good ol' American food.
