Question for everyone... [Salem, OR]

Growing up back in Southern Illinois, every time the family got together for picnics, birthdays, etc there was always fried chicken galore. Now, living here in salem, OR there is no family around to enjoy. As a kid, I got hooked on my grandmother's fried chicken gizzards. Practically everyone I know turns their noses up at the thought of them. I've only found one place here in the Northwest that even cooks/serves them. Of all places, its the Safeway deli. But there doesn't seem to be any consistency to the cooking of them. One place over cooks them, the next one they come out practically raw. Does ANYONE know where a guy could get a decent plate of them? I'm just beginning to have withdrawal syptoms(?) Help a guy?

    1. don't know how convenient it may be but CHICKEN VALLEY in the pike place market has excellent gizzards (and livers) at all times for about $4.50/pound

Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately thats all the way up in Seattle...but I'll certainly check them out the next time I'm up there. Hmm...come to think about it, that'll be around Thanksgiving weel-end.

A favorite lunch: Chicken Valley livers and a pint of buttermilk from next door.

        2. Pappy's Greasy Spoon in Canby's got Gizzard Baskets.
