looking for chestnuts this time of year
Anyone know where I can find chestnuts - roasted, frozen or vacuum-packed?- I've given up on finding fresh, they don't exist in Sept.
I need them today. I live in Jamaica Plain and work in Canton. I've tried Trader Joe's and Market Basket in Chelsea.
Thanks.

what about the asian markets - do they carry them?

I know that in the asian markets they have dried and frozen ones for cooking. Not sure what you need it for or how these will taste in your recipes. I've used frozen ones for braising and they turned out fine.
You might call Whole Foods cuz sometimes they have the jarred ones already.

thanks for the replies. I tried Super 88 in Allston with no luck.. Couldn't find anyone who spoke English that could help me - a problem I often have there. It was for Brisket, a recipe that was in the NY Times on 9/21. I made it without and it was fab- u- lous ! even without the chestnuts
Also made the accompanying rice recipe with pumpkin which was great, even though a lot of work.

Are you near Everett? If so, take a walk thru Woodlawn Cemetary. There are dozens of chestnut trees. Take some friends and some bags. You will get many pounds
