South Congress and North Austin (I-35 and 290) suggestions for out-of-towners

Hi all,

Seattle CH here, hoping to get some feedback on some restaurants near the Hampton Inn South and the Orangewood Suites. We're having about 80 people from across the country fly in next September for our wedding and they'll be staying in either of those places. The wedding fare is Salt Lick BBQ and the rehearsal will be Pappasitos or some other catered tex-mex. I'd like some affordable, Austin'esque options for when we're not feeding them - thoughts?

- South Congress
- Hopdoddy Burgers
- South Congress cafe
- Vespasio ($$$)

North Austin:
- Foreign and Domestic
- House Pizzeria

I saw something about a Peruvian place near the Highland Mall in North Austin, but our guests won't appreciate that type of food quest. North Austin suggestions would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Also, we'll probably have a separate food truck list. We're used to them in the PACNW, but my East Coast relatives are obsessed.

Stayed at a hotel on South Congress several weeks ago. Had a great dinner at Perla and brunch at Vespaio Enoteca, both on S. Congress. There are a bunch of food trucks in that area that I must hit on our next trip there.

Good picks so far. If you're in the mood for old-school Tex-Mex, you can head to Amaya's Taco Village on the west side of I-35, just south of 290. For Vietnamese, I would send you to Pho Van or Sunflower, both in the same shopping center on Research. You can also find decent Chinese there, at Din Ho.
