Which one???

I'm torn between Lineage and Lumiere. I've never been to either and I have only one night. I like most any food as long as it's good. Which one???

Other than the fact that I always get the two names confused, why this particular pair?

Ah, so it's based on your recommendations kimfair. I can see Lumiere, as the original question was about Blue Ginger. But as long as you're sending the OP into Brookline , why Lineage as opposed to say ICOB ? Just asking

          What's ICOB?

Island Creek Oyster Bar in Kenmore Sq. Jeremy Sewell (of Lineage) is also the head chef there.

I don't want to go into Boston, I'm staying in Newton and I used to live in Coolidge Corner. They both got very good reviews in Zagat and Trip Advisor.

That's why i didn't recommend ICOB, which would be my favorite of the three.

Again, ah. Although is it much different a trip from Newton to Coolidge corner or Kenmore?

I know, I'm just being stubborn. Plus, I'm a big ICOB fan

Not for you or I, but the OP really wanted something in Newton, or Coolidge Corner. I'm a big fan of ICOB as well!

I just looked at the menu at ICOB. Looks great. Are the fried clams as good as at the Clam Box? Is parking as bad as I think it is?

I don't eat fried clams (horror, I know), and take public transportation when I go there, but they do have valet parking.

That's it. We're going to ICOB. Thanks for your help. Sorry about the Red Sox. I used to be a real fan.I even remember the batting order when I went to the games: Dimaggio, Pesky, Williams etc. You probably weren't even born then.

Great choice! I decided about a week ago that I didn't want them to win, because they didn't deserve to. I wasn't born then, but am a big enough fan to remember the names (my dad would disown me if I didn't remember the players back then).

It's great!! But parking is tough unless you want to spend $$

I was about to warn you that Kenmore Square (where ICOB is) gets mobbed during Red Sox games, but alas, that won't be an issue until next spring.

Lumiere gets my vote. Lovely room, excellent service, and superb food.

Although, admittedly I've never been to Lumiere, I am thinking that it's more upscale.

This is not to say Lineage is downscale.

I've eaten at both, both are excellent, you will be happy either way.

I've not been to lumiere so I will defer to posters knowledgeable about both, but I'm a big Lineage fan.

It's not The French Laundry or Le Bernardin, but it's a nice, white tablecloth place with reliably very good and often great food and service. And the bar oysters are a huge downfall of mine.

I'm sure it's not the price of Le Bernardin either. Thanks for the info. I'll probably go to Lineage. I used to live at Coolidge Corner so it will be a nostalgia trip for me.

They are both excellent, and you won't go wrong with either. That said, I go to Lineage more frequently as it is closer to my home. That and if you sit at the bar weeknights 5-7pm they have $1 oysters.
