Brisket -- Get the whole brisket (about 11 pounds, choice, untrimmed) at Smart & Final. Served sealed in the cryovac bag. Last time I checked it was $1.89 per pound. The extra fat bastes it if you smoke or roast it. Even if you only use the flat, it is cheaper than in the supermarket, and you can trim the point and grind into fantastic burger meat.

Most Markets do not stock whole turkeys after June. When the stock is depleted, usually frozen turkeys, you can only special order them, a week in advance so you will be paying premium price. The reason is that they want their suppliers to get ready for the holidays.
I had a similar problem trying to find whole turkeys in June. In fact, I depleted one supermaket of their supply, which were two frozen 12 pounders.
The store chains I vsited were..Ralphs, Albertsons, Vons, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Food for Less, 99 ranch, Bristol Farms, Gelson's, Stater Bro's.

Victor's Meat market on the corner of Palms and National carries Shelton Farms during Thanksgiving. I'm not sure if he carries throughout the year but most likely get them since they are fairly local a provider.
