33rd birthday dinner for mixed-income crowd

I'm trying to plan a 33rd birthday dinner for a mixed-income crowd (gainfully employed on the one hand - impoverished graduate student on the other) somewhere in downtown or mid-town Toronto. I'm looking for a place that will accommodate 10 people, with top-notch food, licensed, that won't break the bank. Someplace kinda trendy (folks aged 25-35) is a big bonus.

so we squeezed ourselves into the county general and the food was delicious and reasonably priced! some folks complained about the portion sizes, but i thought the amount of food was appropriate. thanks for the suggestions everyone!

Sidecar is great for this kind of celebration. Well priced, well executed food. Great cocktails, too.

Carpano or Torito may fit the bill. Both can be very budget friendly and offer tasty food and casual environments.

two more things:

1. the gathering is planned for a saturday night
2. we have plans after dinner, so a lounge is not necessary ... charm and high quality food are priorities ...

That WOULD be perfect, but they don't take reservations and only 15 can be seated on the floor ... :( Glad I know about it now though ...
