What is the best Indian in Park Slope?

  • 8

Hi. I realize I'm not getting authentic Indian in Park Slope, but sometimes you crave Indian and don't have time to leave the neighborhood. Surely the "best" we have isn't Baluchi's.... any suggestions?

  1. Um yes I thunk it is Baluchis

    1. We're real picky about our indian food (as in, making it at home) but the couple times weve ordered from Kinara on 5th and 11th (12th?) i thought they did a lot better job than baluchi's which i would probably refuse to eat.

Agree that there is no real "authentic" Indian in PS. Also agree that Kinara does the best job of the lot. Last time I was there, they had some issues with the DOH regarding violations, but just checked DOH web site and they got an "A" with only 7 violation points, which is quite stellar for any restaurant.

yeah, when it comes to DOH scores and indian or vietnamese places, i tend to be of the opinion that DOH approval and authenticity exist in inverse proportion to one another (i think about all deliciously scandalous places i survived in india and figure it cant be that bad).

I second Kinara, and what the DOH is concerned, I believe that their ratings are very random and inconsistent.

it appears to be somewhat challenging for non-chain restaurants, i.e. restaurants that actually do real cooking and ingredient prep on premises, to get the A ratings.

Ok, can you help? My husband loves lamb saag. He had a meh experience with an order of it from Baluchis, so I took the opportunity to try to convert him to Kinara. He was actually revolted--apparently the quality of the lamb in the lamb saag (not that he expected gourmet moist succulence) was extremely poor to the point of inedibility, and now he refuses to order from there again (FYI--I thought it was good Indian food by PS standards). Any other recommendations in the neighborhood for a place that does a decent lamb saag or similar?

      2. Joy on Flatbush is also worth a try.
