Best Romantic Restaurant in Woodstock Area?

  • 8

The existing threads I've found on the Woodstock area seem to be dated — listing many closed restaurants — so I'd like to ask fresh.

We're spending a couple nights celebrating our anniversary in Woodstock and we'd love to find a really great restaurant in that vicinity for the Tuesday night — and I don't mind driving to nearby towns like Rhinebeck, Stone Ridge, New Paltz.

Our first choice, The Bear Cafe, is closed on Tuesdays. We've been told Cucina will make us happy.

One other wrinkle: my wife is vegetarian so we'd need at least one vegetarian entree on the menu.

What are your recommendations?

  1. You might like the Peekamoose Restaurant on Rt. 28 in Big Indian : http://www.peekamooserestaurant.com/h...
With all the flood damage in the area you might want to give them a call, but they appear to be open on Tuesdays.

Peekamoose would meet your criteria; unfortunately it is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

I must be hallucinating! I thought it said they were open on Tues, but you are correct. Never mind.

Damn. This is going to turn out to be the story of our trip! I'll keep looking. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

I believe the red onion is open Tuesday. Close to woodstock, excellent food and at least one or two veg options if i recall correctly.

Thanks! The Red Onion's menu looks good — but I wish they'd post some photos of the place. Is it suitably romantic?

Can anyone compare it to Cucina?

I would say it is romantic. It is a converted house just outside Woodstock with a fireplace and beautiful old wood floors. It has retained the feel of a home to a certain extent. I've always found the food to be very good and have gone there on dates in the past.

Sadly I've not been to cucina so I can not give a fair comparison.

That's excellent news — thanks for the info. It's too bad our 20th anniversary falls on a Tuesday, but you've really helped me find good candidates.
