Looking to book a Birthday dinner for 7.. Italian, moderately priced, trendy casual..

BUT GOOD FOOD!

Having such a hard time with this decision.. Can anyone help with a suggestion?

Thinking Da Silvano, Locanda verde, Campangnola, Accapella??
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Here's my review from a few years back (and I doubt the place has changed much). I think you can do better - Scarpetta, for example - but you could certainly do worse.

When is the dinner? Tomorrow? Next weekend? A few weeks from now?

How much do you want to spend per person on food only? That's without tax, tip, wine, drinks, etc. $50pp? $75pp? Moderately priced can mean a lot of different things to different people. A dollar figure for food only helps more.

Its for Sunday, Nov 13,,, $ 50-60 a pp.... Would love to try Scarpetta although price seems a bit higher and food more adventurous... I'm going with a group who loves linguini and white clam sauce, and fried calamari...

Da Salvano would be tough for $50 pp.

Da Silvano is not moderate, but I;ve gone to parties there. Bar Pitti is half the price of Da Silvano but it would be too tight to book a table for 7 there. Accappella is a comfortable place good food, but not moderate, i went with 4 people the other nite and it was over $500. Also, Accappella is neither trendy nor casual, Da Silvano I wouldnt consider trendy either. Try Locanda Verde , it's trendy, some people like their food. Osteria Morini is trendy and has great food, Rubiroso is trendy and reasonable, Cinque in Tribeca is a nice room, food is good and it is reasonable.

You can do much better than Da Silvano. I think Locanda Verde would be a good choice given your criteria.

Locanda verde is in the lead so far... Has anyone eaten at Marcony? Heard that would be a good option as well..

            Any thoughts?

I went to Da Silvano, it has been awhile. I have been going to his expartner's Bar Pitti more recently. Da Silvano's menu says in Italian " food of Tuscany". The food was delicous. The Burrata and tomato was so fresh and so good. The rigatoni with pancetta was delicious. The pasta contadina was exactly the same as it was for years. They are consistent. The porchetta was absolutely perfect. So succulent and flavorful. Calamari was a little too salty. And the grilled octopus was very good. The3 tables next to mine were people from Italy. They were speaking italian. They were very happy with their food. Just to cover, any posts about Italian American vs real Italian. The people from Italy had no problem with the food. The prices of the food isn't cheap but they still have excellent food. Bar Pitti, is simpler food. No Rabbit, no porchetta etc. I recommend people try Da Silvano again. It is better than most of the restaurants that get rave reviews. i.e. Locanda Verde, Scarpetta, Frankies, Lupa, etc

Please tell them that the copious amounts of bright blue rope lighting around the scaffolding is really, really horrible looking.

hahahaha yes it is truly ridiculous. Apparently the lights haven't stopped the place from filling up with people. Maybe tacky, ugly is in?
