There is a very long list of restaurants in NE. I have lived here for 6 years and still trying to make it to every bar and restaurant!
Here are my favorites:
- Gorkha Palace for Nepalese and Indian. Good momos.
- Adelitas for Mexican - the kitchen is open late night on weekends.
- Chimborazo - Ecuadorian. Much reviewed restaurant on this board.
- La Colonia for Ecuadorian/Colombian - the spicy salsa is absolutely addictive. More items to choose from than Chimborazo.
- Pizza Nea - casual but more intimate than Punch.
- Sample Room - I love this place when you want to meet friends, drink and nibble.
- Anchor Fish and Chips - because they are delicious
- Jax Cafe for brunch - I love the chicken salad
- Brasa for the meat. Lately I prefer take out vs dining in.
- Masu for the noodles - pork belly ramen is my hubby's fav.
Have fun exploring!

Adelita's is awful. El Taco Riendo is a vastly superior.
Crescent Moon makes awesome Afghani pizza.

My favorites are:
Butcher Block - Underrated, meat-forward Italian
Crescent Moon Pizza - Genuinely unique pizza.
Red Stag Supper Club - Delivers as promised.
Modern - One of my favorites. Great American food across the board.
Emily's Lebanese
Punch Pizza - Multiple locations, but I prefer it to Nea.
Chimborazo - Best Ecuadorian in town.
Masu - I actually like the sushi and robata.
Anchor Fish and Chips - Best fried fish in town, I think.
Erte - If you're looking for an affordable steak, this is your place.
Holy Land - Both as a grocer and deli.
I'm not a fan of Adelitas, the Sample Room or Jax. Jury's out for me on Brasa and Nea. I've not been to Gorkha.

Northeast is a great eating destination, from the river all the way up to 29th (Chimborazo).
In addition to what has already been posted, I'd add:
-Alma, since it is still one of my favorite spots in town.
-Bulldog for the beer selection and good burgers (great tots too).
Add me to this list that would steer you away from Adelita's and toward El Taco Riendo.

I'm a fan of:
Adelita's for the Al Pastor (not tried anything else)
Alma (still good after all these years)
Brasa
Chimborazo
Diamond Cafe (in the white building on west side of Central by the railroad tracks around 14th)
Dong Yang (excellent Korean)
El Taco Riendo (for the burritos)
The Modern
Punch
Sen Yak Sen Lai (I'm no thai purist, this is way better than Sawatdee and Pad Thai on Grand, only guys that are better or in the same boat are On's Thai and Bangkok Deli)
I really miss Bombay 2 Deli. I heard she moved to the skyway.

When did you hear that about Bombay 2? When the place was closing down she said she hoped to get something going in the Skyway in a matter of months. She even had a big list of email addresses for updates. I never heard anything since. Man that place was the best.

I completely agree. That really was the best (and spiciest) Indian food I've ever had to this day.

Forgot about Obento-Ya. That's on the list for sure.

My top faves in NE are:
- Holy Land (their hummus keeps me alive)
- Brasa
- Chimborazo
- Emily's
- Kramarczuk's Deli
- Zakia Deli
- Gorkha (though I prefer The Himalayan in SE)
As for Adelita's, count me as a fan. I've had nice food and drinks there - nothing out-of-the-world great, but I like the full bar. (Still haven't tried Taco Riendo; the call of booze always lures me to the other side of the street.)
Me, I'd pass on Psycho Suzi's except for happy-hour drinks on the patio. I found the food to be mediocre, but you can't beat the view.
Has anyone been to Marrakech? I've been meaning to try it.
Anne
P.S. Technically, Alma and Obento-Ya are in SE Minneapolis, but what's a few blocks when the destination is so wonderful?

I just drove by Marrakech and was wondering how it was.

I checked it out a year ago. Haven't been there lately.

While it's not technically in NE, but a few miles up on central is Filfallah--pretty awesome chicken shwarmas.
And I'm surprised nobody mentioned legend's bar. That used to be our go to place for cheap eats.

I may be wrong, but isn't Marakesh, just a half a block south or north of the new(er) Falafal King on Central, which would be heart of NE. Have been wondering about Marakesh, so thanks for the input. Will check out Legends.

To each their own of course, but beyond the food, during my visit a TV in Adelita's was airing a show depicting graphic dog fighting pictures and the other a movie in the "Blade" series.

We were treated to borderline R-rated music videos. Also, no A/C in the summer. Blech.

I would recommend checking out Ginger Hop for their happy hour (Mon-Fri, 4-6pm, and Mon-Thu 10-12pm). My personal favorites there are the "hop wings" and calamari. They have tons of food items on their HH menu. Great drink specials, too. It's been one of our favorite happy hour stops for a while now.
Just tried Masu for the first time the other night, too. We will definitely be going back soon!
Pork belly = happy belly.
