L.A. foodies need to know: Proof? Corduroy?
We have read up and eliminated Citronelle and Marvels. Had to narrow it down! Also eliminated OvalRoom. No tapas, please. Would love a great and memorable location...outdoors maybe even? Staying near Dupont Circle, although with public transportation readily available (hooray!) Not limited on location. Would love advice. Lastly, want to be dressed up....in a trendy 30 something way. Thanks in advance for help!

I would hit Birch and Barley if you can get in, then after dinner (and dessert) head up to Churchkey to hang out - it's where the kids go. Or move up the street to other places, like Masa 14 or Black Cat, depending on your idea of "trendy" (I loved the black cat when I drank - great bar, good music, but now I'm old..)

I love both Proof and Corduroy, but while they both have good food (and of course wine) they have a slightly different vibe. Proof's main dining room is quite open and is not realy separated from the bar. Corduroy is in a renovated townhouse so the dining rooms are smaller and more intimate. Corduroy has a pistachio bread pudding that is one of the best desserts I have eaten anywhere.
Agreed that DCers can dress pretty stylishly if they want. If I see smartly dressed 30 somethings on the metro you know you can find them at Proof and Corduroy.

We don't dress very trendily here - beware. Consider adding Blue Duck Tavern to your list.
