I went to CM in South Lake looking for Foie Gras specifically, and it was not in the Deli showcase when I glanced at it (though their "Goose Mousse" looked interesting, and I would have tried...), when the gentleman behind the counter asked if he could help me. I told him I was actually looking for Foie Gras and would settle for a pate' he recommended, when he mentioned he had a 3 Lb. "stick" in the back if I wanted some ! I was elated. Then he mentioned the price !! Last time I bought it was at Orly Airport (Charles DeGaul) in Paris, at the Duty Free Shop. The "tin" it was in was surely under a pound, but also had truffle in the center, which was extraordinary. It was under $20-$25 I'm also sure of. However, besides digressing, and back at the ranch in South Lake. They had it for sale at "$120 per pound" !! I then tried to quietly thank him, and make my way for the exit, when in a truly marvelous display of salesmanship he offered "...but here's what I'll do. The only reason I have this is because a customer wanted some and when he came in to get some...he only bought a 1/4 Lb. !! Now this stuff doesn't last forever. So you can buy whatever you really want, and I'll only charge you half price!" Music to my ears ! I bought 1/2 Lb. and paid $30. BUT, I also called Hundr... er...tens of....OK a COUPLE of friends to get up there a get some while it lasted. A few who knew, and a few that had never tried it before. So, yeah, they can still get it (if the "greenies" haven't succeeded in getting it banned since I was there last year).
Just try calling any one of the stores close by and ask them if they'll order some for you. Ask for the market price, and give them some idea of the amount you'd like to buy so they don't order to much. It would be a shame if ultimately they quit getting it due to having to throw it away. They should have better networks with high end restaurants when something like that happens, I't's possible they were able to unload it, though I doubt it. What a waste.

That *was* a marvelous display of showmanship, I love it! Unfortunately that's not my CM, so I can't (easily) go watch this guy do his thing ;) What I don't get is why he didn't put it in the case, or at least some signage ... maybe he tires of the comments. I was pretty amused to overhear two guys talking about the price of the black truffles in the produce section ...
