College Roommate Reunion for Foodies

Hi! Would love some input (I have read many posts on the site and Manhattan seems incredibly responsive and friendly) for dinner for next Saturday night for 4 people. Prefer LES area although definitely able to travel to Brooklyn.

Looking for:
tasting menu that has a vegetarian option or a la carte that won't be too much more than $200/p
fun atmosphere -- no white tablecloths and somber waiters
4 female college roommates who want to be able to hear each other but still have an uptempo vibe
reallly good food -- mediterarrean, french, tapas or seafood or vietnamese would be my preference. no italian, please.
good wine list

Any advice would be much appreciated! I realize that 8 days to make a reservation is not a lot of time but we are flexible on early or late dinner if that helps.

  1. You might want to try Hearth. Excellent food, huge wine list, could be considered quiet but certainly not somber.

    1. You may want to look into a brand new place that just opened in the former Tabla location corner of MAD and 25th, La Mar, it's a Peruvian restaurant specializing in cebiche. The inside has cool vibe to it, very lively and bright.

      1. I second Hearth, it's visually very pretty, the food is good, and you can actually hear yourself talking in the dining room. Afterwards you can go to one of the million bars nearby.

        1. If you go to Brooklyn, Lunetta is pretty nice- an Italian restaurant and a bunch of their meat is grass-fed, if you're into that. They also have veggie options.

The OP specifically said no Italian.

I actually thought wd-50 when I first read your post. Fits all of your requirements, IMO - it's LES, casual, fun, but cooking at a high level. It may not be on the menu, but they can and do serve a tasting for vegetarians as well. Of course, this is provided that all of you are pretty adventurous and you can get a res.
