Rainbow Palace

I've always been skeptical about this place given the cost of each dish however, a trusted palate recommended it to me and so I am planning a visit but wanted to hear if I am headed down another high cost mediocre dinner. Thoughts? Thanks in advacne.

  1. In my opinion, trust your gut. Staff and service were great but the food and atmosphere didn't justify the price. You'll feel like you've been flung back to a fine dining Chinese restaurant circa 1984 complete with tuxedoed host.

Had dinner there last night. Place is very pretty and service is solicitous and food is presented in a bit of a pretentious manner. However, it wasn't great!! I know it's Cantonese but it's was so sweet we considered checking to see if we had to have insulin shots!! Even after we told the waiter that spicey was not a problem and ordered one dish spicier than they normally make it - there was still not even a hint of spice. He deilvered a supposed bottle of hot chile oil and even that wasn't very spicey nor did it have much flavor. Won't go back. Can't say you didn't warn me so thanks.

Your story reminds me of when I first moved to Florida and was having dinner @ Thai House 2 on 163 and Biscayne. The food came too mild I asked for hot sauce they brought me a dead mild powder...I took the lid of the jar poured the entire contents in my hand sucked it in at once and said to the waitress that's not hot!

I have learnt over the years with Indian food that if you want it realyl hot you have to say you want it "Indian Hot" so perhaps it is the same with Chinese food.

In Florida that has only worked 1 time for me....I was browbeating the owner of Panya Thai on 163rd st... When my Tiger Tear app came out I could not see the food through the layer of bird peppers on top.....

Beware of what you ask for you may actually get it!

    2. Every detail was meticulously attended to from the time we entered until the time we left. The wait staff is as professional as you would find anywhere. Each dish is perfectly prepared and worth the cost. We had the Shrimp and Lobster Dumplings, Orange Sesame Shrimp, Chicken with White Wine Lemon Sauce, and Lobster Tail and Seafood Sauce. Though we did not have any wine, the list was extensive and would pair with any dish. The 4 diamond award is well earned. I would certainly recommend the Rainbow Palace to anyone who wanted to experience the best in Chinese cuisine.
