Meyer Lemons this Year?

sqwertz Sep 22, 2011 05:27 PM

Will there be any Meyer lemons this year? The last two years there weren't any that I saw, except for a few weeks they had some from New Zealand for $4/lb. I thought we were in prime Meyer/Valley Lemon Territory?

I saw some for a short while last December at Central Market. I don't remember the exact price, but I do recall it was high. I believe they were from California. I've gotten some in the past from a friend in town who has a tree, but the frosts we've experienced for the past couple winters made her tree die back significantly. My MIL in San Antonio completely lost her orange and lime trees. I suspect the Valley suffered losses due to the frosts as well.

greenling uses g & s groves for a lot of local seasonal citrus.
i've had the meyer lemons from there, and they were great.
according to the website, we need to wait about another 3 months for the season.

Central Market had them last week... I picked a couple up. Not cheap, but not insanely outrageous as I recall

My three foot tall tree, lovingly moved in and out of the garage in the cold week or so we had,has about 14 ripening. It has been a good investment!?!

I saw some last week at Central Market on Westgate. I had to replace 2 from the 3-day freeze last winter. The new trees have some that are ripening now, but still have a few weeks to go.
