Carla (Top Chef), Mario, Michael Symon and others on new daytime show

We tried watching this show a couple of days ago and could not make it past the first 5 minutes. Hyperactive, unprepared hosts and forced points make for bad TV. They must have pulled a dump truck full of money up to Batali's house to get him on this show. I love his restaurants, but when he does things like this it makes me wonder how serious he really is about educating people about good Italian food. Yeeesh!

I watched just a couple of minutes of it today before changing the channel. Although I do like Michael Symon & Mario Batali, this kind of show just isn't my cup of tea.

I liked the first episode for a variety of reasons.

I think Clinton Kelly makes a good moderator and was able to keep things moving when someone was cooking so that there was no dead air. Clinton was a QVC host back on the short-lived Q2 channel for a while, so he knows how to work the dead air issue. However, he gets really excited and starts talking really fast, and gets breathless.

Carla needs to stop saying "child" every 15 seconds.

Mario was 'on location,' which was both odd and hilarious as both Michael Symon and Mario have a great sense of humor and made his segment quite funny. Since Mario came late to the group, he is probably going to be off more than he will be on as he probably has a schedule full of commitments already on the books.

Dr. Oz surprised Daphne and that whole segment was funny, odd, uncomfortable and downright disfunctional. Words can't do it justice. You have to watch it. Daphne should be the first one to get voted off the island. I don't think she fits in with the group (I think she thinks she 's above everyone else, especially since this was supposed to be her show).

I think over time they will develop a rhythm together.

There is another larger contemporary thread on this show and you seem to be in the minority. I hope to catch it soon.

We all know CH's seach function is not that great if you don't use Google.

The Chew is replacing the beloved All My Children which will air its last show this Friday after 40+ years on ABC. You should read the hate and vitriol aimed at The Chew by all the die hard All My Children fans on the ABC board dedicated to the show. It's hilarious. If ABC is counting on the fans of AMC becoming a part of the audience for The Chew, they better rethink that strategy. lol

I am a fan of Mario Batali's restaurants and some of his earlier shows, but I have to be honest, just from the commercials, The Chew looks annoying.

AMC will continue on the web per http://www.radaronline.com/exclusives.... (I've heard this on multiple news fronts)

Yes I know, but there are so many conflicting reports about this that it's anyone's guess what the future holds.

Did a quick read of the article, and I'm still puzzled about Clinton Kelly's role. Like him very much on What Not to Wear, but does he have foodie credibility? or will he critique what the others are wearing?

Believe he's there for the culture/lifestyle angle. "Hot trends" and such.

He's a gay man, ergo, he can do anything. (He also cooks)

Gordon Elliot as producer - where have I heard that name before? :)

The article discusses various trends in food shows, from Tony's "gonzo food-tourism shows", Nadia's 'curveballs', and the forth coming Dr Evil.

Gordon hosted "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" maybe 10-20 years ago, then hosted on Food Network, now produces shows for FN. Credited with "discovering" Paula Deen.

That was Robin Leach, but, yes, Elliot has been in the media for years, and has produced, and even starred in FN shows from the infancy of the channel.

I remember him best for Door Knock Dinners. Apparently he discovered Paula while doing this show.

When learning about new shows, I like to find out who the producer and/or production company is. Often that gives more of an idea of what the show will be like than who the host is. The host is often just the hired pretty face. The producers set the tone and emphasis.

It's astonishing how many people still confuse Gordon with Robin Leach when they look and, to my ear, sound nothing alike. Gordon was a correspondent for A Current Affair and had his own talk show before doing DKD and Follow That Food for FN. Born in Liverpool but grew up in Australia and speaks with an Australian accent and looks like Frankenstein. Robin was a correspondent for ET before Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous and speaks with British accent and looks like a troll.

He does not look at all like Dr Frankenstein - at least not the Gene Wilder version! Frankenstein's monster maybe. :)

I saw the commercials for this. might set the dvr to catch a couple episodes if it isn't on demand in a couple weeks, just to see what they're doing.

It looks like an interesting group of people (save Dr. Oz's daughter as I am anti-anything Dr. Oz). I like Clinton Kelly
