Good Bar for Social Hour in Albuquerque near Convention Center
I have to find a good bar for a social hour in Albuquerque near the Convention Center for math teachers ( no jokes please - yes , we can go to bars without turning every drink into a math problem) attending a math conference there in November. One Up was suggested but from the website it looks like it might be noisy - loud music?- and not conducive to catching up/ meeting and greeting. Any ideas? Hotel bars are OK, just would like someplace interesting with decent food and atmosphere.

Hmm. One Up was the first place that I was going to suggest, just for proximity. Copper Lounge is a bit further away but might be of interest. El Madrid if you want a dive (which you don't).
I've been in One Up a few times and never suffered particularly loud music (they play that electronic blu/"chill" music), FWIW. Might be worth a call to the manager. There are certainly areas w/i the bar that they could dedicate to your group - I've seen that happen and talked to them about holding an event there.

The potential noise level for any place downtown is going to depend a lot on the day of the week and time you're going. Many mellow, chill places turn loud after a certain hour when they start having live music or djs. Just keep in mind you may want to start by 6 so that you can have happy hour prices and a couple of hours of conversation before you all start dancing. My suggestion would be the lobby bar at Hotel Andaluz. http://www.hotelandaluz.com/ it is a gorgeous space and you can actually reserve one of their little cubbies--I can't remember what they actually call them but you can call the hotel and ask. It's a semi-private space in the lobby. but, again, if you get there early on a weekday you may not need reservations at all. One warning--the food may be expensive and just apps--it's really more of a bar. If you are looking for something funkier, cheaper and more of a local hang I like blackbird buvette on central http://blackbirdbuvette.com/ they have good burgers and a great patio in back (which may not be an option, depending on when in November you'll be here).
