Trader Joe's officially considering Alabama Theatre

  1. So I'm not too excited yet. Though I know people swoon over Trader Joe's, it sounds like the fervor is over mixes, frozen foods and such. It'll be interesting to find out what the brouhaha is all about.

I looked at this thread quickly and all I saw is prepared deserts, pre-cooked bacon, frozen fish and enchiladas, it seems to be a place for those in a hurry and not cook from scratch, but like you I've never been. It looks like if I'm driving to that part of town it will be Central Market, or I'll just shop at the HEB Bunker Hill, I don't see how it can be better than there.

Yup, prefab food. I caution against buying pine nuts from TJ's. Every case of "pine mouth" I have read about originated at Trader Joe's.

TJ is a good use for this iconic space, which has been vacant far too long. A lot of people live within walking distance, so it will be convenient for them. TJ can feed off the southbound traffic from that Randalls at Shepherd & Westheimer (its a pain to make that left turn, even without rush hour traffic). I've only visited one TJ (in Manhattan) so I am reserve my judgement on their products until they get here.

    2. According to Trader Joe's web site. They will be opening soon in The Woodlands but still no mention of them opening in the Alabama Theater space.

I just checked TJ's site and and listed under opening soon, there are two locations (one of which is where the Alabama Theatre is located.)

Also, Swamplot has confirmed three TJs open by the end of the year:

The Voss store is just a few minute walk from my office.

They are doing site prep work now.

          I'm looking forward to it.
