Copper Mountain/ Vail

  • 4

We will be staying in a house near Copper Mountain the first week of October. Can someone please recommend some dining options. We are all "true foodies" by this I mean we love The French Laundry but also love the best taco trucks in Austin Texas. We love local ingredient (slow food) restaurants as well. If someone could suggest a few fine dining options as it is one of the girls birthday. We also would love some local dive places with really great food. We have a car so can easily drive to Vail or anywhere worth traveling to.

  1. Unfortunately, I don't know much about Copper other than it's only a resort and not a town. Kelly Liken, Larkspur, and LaTour in Vail are all very nice. In Breckenridge, I'd recommend Hearthstone and Top of the World. (although a friend just visited Breck and said Top of the World wasn't in business anymore) Giampietros in Breckenridge for pizza (Downstair's at Eric's sucks IMO unless you have kids you want to keep entertained) and Rasta Pasta for cheap, big portions as well.

What do you mean by "near Copper Moutain"? I haven't been to Modis in Breck lately, but I liked that a lot. Larkspur in Vail is one of the many wonderful eateries in that resort. If you get as far west on I-70 as Glenwood Springs, I've heard good things about The Pullman. It SHOULD still be aspen season, so most/many restaurants should still be open. Some might have locals' specials and/or more limited menus than in winter or summer. Have a great time.

    2. No great recommendations for you, but I do recall that when we were in Vail in early October a couple of years ago almost every restaurant was 50% off for "mud season". Great way to sample places that might otherwise be out of the price range. Although I think Larkspur and Kelly Liken were both closed at that time of the season.

Best way to find out which resort-town restaurants have off-season specials is via the free local newspaper.
