Lunch today - Venice Beach

walking down the beach from Santa Monica to Venice. Anywhere to go for sit down lunch & do some people watching? Anything but Mexican - had that last night. Thanks!

I'll give a shout out to China Beach. For the most part, the food is just "okay." But they have some stuff I really like too. The vegetarian ham wrapped in betel leaves (la lot leaves) is yummy, as are the chicken satay and the fried rice.

Hmmm - gonna need to go try Larry's, as I've never been. Venice Ale House, certainly, is terrific.

Really nice report on lunch (she had sausage and red cabbage special IIRC) by a good friend who took her daughter to the Venice Ale House yesterday. She said it was pretty crowded, but after the Labor Day weekend things should calm down a bit: http://venicealehouse.com/

If you are walking, stay in Santa Monica and have lunch on the beach at Back to the Beach.

I haven't eaten/drank at either but Larry's on Windward and Venice Ale House on Rose are both prime locations for people watching. Venice Ale House is pressed up against the Board Walk, while Larry's is at Windward and Speedway. Larry's has the stronger pedigree (chef Brendan Collins from Waterloo and City).

Probably the most prominent "people watching" spot on the Venice Ocean Front Walk is the Sidewalk Cafe. Not great but solid. Farther south the food at James Beach is better but you are not front and center on the OF Walk.
