Our dinner at Son of a Gun
LA CH's who advised this east coast foodie to go to Son of a Gun, thk u, thk u. Fab experience. Sat at communal tbl w/ convivial neighbors. Our choices included an interesting heirloom tomato salad although the tomatoes were not that flavorful, a fabulous cod preparation in a flavorful Asian broth, a very rich brandade with slightly too well done poached eggs & a delicious tart w/ excellent homemade ice cream. Going to Animal tonight. Expecting more wows.

re: Dapuma
We ate here for the second time last week and loved the food- again.
BUT tthe noise was just too, too much.
I'm kind of surprised not to hear anyone else menion this.
It's not like we're not used to this issue in the Bay Area, but this is beyond anything.
Very, very unpleasant at the communal table at 8 PM on a Thursday night. We even enquired about take-out thinking that might be the wy to go next time!

re: Oakland Barb
Yes it was very noisy and you really have to be in the mood for noise, but on our last night in LA, we switched from Animal to Son of a Gun because we thought Animal might be too heavy before the long drive to Carmel. We walked in and actually landed a table. Noise level was robust, but not awful. If you are in the mood and get convivial neighbors, I think the communal table is a really fun experience.
