i don't know why, but i like their truck food better than their brick-and-mortar food. maybe it's just psychological....
slightly off-topic, Taqueria San Jose opened up a new spot at Mission near 16th - it's not mentioned on their website, tho.... http://www.taqueriasanjose1since1980....

The Taqueria San Jose in Oakland's not nearly as good as the original. I'm not sure they're even connected.

The one by 24th Street has been particularly well scrubbed lately. i've rarely seen a cleaner taqueria. Plus they have huge jars of sangria (haven't tried them) and more kinds of beer. Prices are still very modest, al pastor as good as ever.
I think there's a branch in San Mateo that's affiliated with the 24th St branch.

i don't know anything about one in Oakland, i'm just talking about a new one at mission & 16th. the one near 24th Bart is cleaned up and very good, and yes, as Windy says, sells wine and sangria. The wine was really pretty good - an argentinian cabernet for $4 a glass.

Their place on 24th was always kind of dark.

I was wrong. it's not San Jose, it's Taqueria Vallarta that just opened up at 16th & Mission - not sure if it's related to the 24th Street shop.
wow, it looks like the 24th St. shop is closed: http://www.yelp.com/biz/taqueria-vall...
no mention of the Mission & 16th store, so I'm still not sure if it's the same people.

I think it probably is the same people. They also have a Taqueria Vallarta out in the Excelsior on Mission. They have the same taco "steamer" set-up there. It's at Mission and Persia.
