Ice Cream/Frozen Custard in Montreal
I am going to be visiting Montreal from November 19th to November 20th
I am looking for really good ice cream places that are more locally owned and not chains, but if the chains are really good I would like to go.
I would like to find a ice cream place with lots of flavors and add-ins.
I really like thick shakes/concretes, but ice cream/frozen custard other ways is good too.
Thanks

- Kem Coba
- Les Givrés
- Havre aux glaces (at Marché Jean-Talon or Marché Atwater)
- Bilboquet (a small "chain", still good)
- Roberto Gelateria (as far as I know the only one doing nougat ice-cream. My favorite flavor this summer)

re: Glaff
bilboquet in outremont closes in winter, maybe the westmount one stays open....not sure
I think the cupcake place les glaceurs in old montreal serves bilboquet ice cream
the maple syrup place in old montreal maple delights has sorbets and gelatos with a maple added ingredient, their products are quite good

the gelatos at suite 88 are tasty and they are located right downtown as well as on st. denis, and you can sit to have a coffee, hot chocolate or tea a big advantage in winter

most of these places do not have addins, only the chains

ice cream in November, thats a tough one as many of the local ice cream shops are seasonal as Montreal winters dampens the interest. You certainly would want one with lots of space inside to eat it, most of these places are tiny and people take the ice cream outside to eat. The Kem Coba new place plans to stay open in winter and they are located next to Fairmont Bagels so could stock up on bagels at same time. I dont have the impression that shakes are all that popular in Montreal. I have never seen frozen custard but if anyone knows a place in Montreal I would be interested to give it a try.
