Grand Opening At Gourmet Island in Alhambra
The huge banner outside of Gourmet Island says "Grand Opening" but as we know, Gourmet Island has been open a couple of years. So what this means is a change of ownership and operation, as evidenced by a change in the Chinese name of the restaurant. The new Gourmet Island has a conventional Hong Kong/Cantonese lunch and dinner menu in line with predecessors at that location including Jumbo and The Kitchen. Gone is the breakfast menu (they're not even open for breakfast), the cafe items, and the dishes that Jonathon Gold raved about. My lunch dish was OK but nothing noteworthy. Gourmet Island is at 203 W. Valley Blvd.
Too bad about the new ownership. I liked Gourmet Island.

what about their deli and bbq meats? That's too bad about the food though I really liked their stuff.

Uuuh, would you minding sharing with us what you ordered? And maybe how the same dish tasted or might be prepared in another establishment that you find more acceptable?

Creamy corn fish. Too much batter (a common affliction).
