Pierogis with gyoza wraps?

So I've been jonesing for some pierogi lately, and have read on the internet that some people (including actual Russians/Ukranians) will use wonton/gyoza wraps as a shortcut. Has anyone in chow-land tried this? I'm planning to use a basic potato/onion filling, some may have cheese if I'm feeling... cheesy.

I've made pelmeni with won ton wrappers, but aren't pierogi more bready in texture?

My wife being Russian, decided to take the short cut and try this once. The flavor was pierogi, but it wasn't a pierogi. I have also tried making them with puff pasrty, and pillsbury crescent rolls. Both very good but just not the authenticity that one would expect.

Edit: per my wife-go ahead and enjoy, just don't call them Pierogi's

It would work, but it won't be a pierogie ;-(
The key to a pierogie is the chewy, elastic dough made with sour cream. Sounds like a ravioli with pierogie filling. I think it's a fun substitute. Serve with sour cream and enjoy!
