Ninja Sushi Restaurant in West Bloomfield [DTW]

VTB Sep 14, 2011 07:34 PM

Anybody been to Ninja Sushi Restaurant in West Bloomfield, MI (14 Mile just east of Farmington Rd.)? http://ninjasushimi.food.officelive.c...

This Korean sushi place appears to be pretty gimmicky and cheesy. But, I just might be Caucasian enough and sucker enough to check it out during one of their promo days. …Unless, a fellow Chowhounder talks me out of it.

The one person I know who has tried it likes it. How are they gimmicky? i'm only in the area one weekend a month to visit non-sushi loving family, so I miss out on the promos and cheese.

been twice, more so because it's one of the few places open till at least 10pm and is relatively close to where i live (18 min). the service is friendly. the food is neither very good nor very bad. i've sampled about 6 specialty rolls, soup, salad, a couple appetizers. the shrimp tempura component of a couple of the rolls had the texture and taste as if it had been out all day, likely re-fried. not all that good. but then again i did eat their towards their time of closure both times. nevertheless, i've had better similar items at other sushi joints.

Have you tried Sushi Den on Pontiac Trail and Maple? Or Casey's across the street from there? I'm really curious about it there just because it's more your typical joint than your typical sushi joint.

Have you tried Mene Sushi? (NE corner of Maple & O'Lake)

Think I'll try Sushi Den for lunch.

Mene sounds like a place I will try. Sushi Den Sounds decent but it's pretty far from me. Im well east of Ninja as it is.

Sushi Den is right around the corner from me.

I really like Mene's bento box.

Mene Sushi is my favorite sushi restaurant, although I know there are a number of good places around.

Mene is within 20 minutes of home, so not too inconvenient for me to get there.

I've been to Mene a couple of times for dinner. I've enjoyed it. Sanka Tei, on 14 and Haggerty in the same strip as Hillers, is also pretty good for takeout. I think they may actually be cheaper than Sushi Den.
Cherry Blossom is also on my list.

I have mixed feelings about the place. Went once for the AYCE buffet which consisted of four different rolls, miso soup, and tea. It wasn't bad but there are too many other good options in this area. I don't know if I would go back considering Sushi House has a dollar menu (you have to purchase a special card but usually someone around work has one). For me, the best value is the Y8 or Kitchen Special at Cherry Blossom across from Twelve Oaks Mall. If you do go, ask for the dinner appetizer menu, I definitely recommend the squid lips!

I applaud your courage, VTB...I wouldn't even consider a restaurant with Ninja in the title (see Frank Bruni's coverage of a Ninja related rest in NYC.)
