GOOD UPSCALE CHINESE IN FLUSHING?
TAKING OUT TWO COLLEGE FRIENDS. ONE LIKES CHICKEN. THAT'S IT. OTHER HAS PRETTY BROAD TASTE.
HOWEVER, THEY GENERALLY TAKE ME TO MODERATE TO UPSCALE PLACES IN CITY. WITH TABLECLOTHS AND FANCY STUFF LIKE THAT. PLUS WINE AT LEAST, IF NOT HARD STUFF
I AM USED TO GREAT PLAIN PIPERACK CHINESE RESTAURANTS IN MANHATTAN LIKE BO BO'S (CLOSED BEFORE EVERYONE WHO READS THIS WAS BORN).
SPICY AND TASTY IS TOO SPICY AND TASTY FOR ONE GUY. AND ALL THE OTHERS I'VE BEEN TO HAVE BEEN LIKE THE OLD FASHIONED, PLAIN CHINATOWN RESTAURANTS.
UNFORTUNATELY, NOT FOR MY FRIENDS.
ANY IDEAS?

Imperial Palace, next to Joe's Shanghai would suit their tastes, so would Mulan in the Queens Crossing Building across from Jade Asian.

Second Mulan. The ambiance is best in Flushing.
Imperial Palace is sometimes less than hygienic in smell and appearance.
The ambiance at Hunan House is on the nicer end of the spectrum and one better at Grand Restaurant at the New World Mall.

I really enjoy the food at Imperial Palace - I've even hosted a large numbers of guests at a banquet there - but they are not very clean. Their letter grade, last I checked, was a C. Jade Asian, Mulan, Grand Restaurant, etc. are all cleaner and have more attractive interiors.

Try Canton Gourmet - slightly more upscale that you're typical Chinese restaurant, white table cloth, etc. They specialize in seafood but they're crispy garlic chicken is awesome. Lots of well prepared Cantonese dishes.
