Something Similar to Kaka'ako Kitchen in Kaimuki area?

I just moved to the Kaimuki Area (12th Ave to be specific) and I'm loving all of the food choices. The one place I desperately miss is Kaka'ako Kitchen. I'm a huge fan of their daily specials and also the Sweet Chili Chicken and their Kalua Pig Sandwich.

Are there any places similar around the Kaimuki Area? Good to Grill, South Shore Grill, and Diamond Head Grill are all great, but none of them really hit the same spot that Kaka'ako Kitchen does.

Also, looking for any other good quick dinner places in the area around the same price range ($8 - 13).

Not exact matches, but have you been to JJ Bistro & French Pastry, St Louis Delicatessen and Cafe Miro? I know these are all over the place, but finding nicer dining and local food isn't always easy. There is always Rainbow.

Welcome to Kaimuki which is my old former hometown. We lived right next to Kapaolono Park many many years ago. Kaimuki is an older neighborhood but life is steadily returning ever since the freeway took much of it's luster back in the early 60s. On Waialae and 12th, our favorites are still Big City Diner and Kim Chee II plus Happy Days for dim sum. There are several other new establishments which opened in that same corner parking lot area which I've heard was pretty good but haven't yet tried. Try them out and let us know what you think. On the other end of 12th Avenue is Ruger Market where they serve up bentos early in the morning as well as tasty Hawaiian dishes for take out. Enjoy.

there isn't any specific place that is Just Like Kakaako Kitchen, but there are a number of places to try for good, reasonably priced food. Sadly most of them don't offer outdoor seating. Big City Diner is the most popular and most similar to KK, but not the same, as I am sure you know. Covenant Books and Coffee is great for breakfast and lunch, but they close for dinner. Good soup/sandwich kind of place. Town is also good, but on the more expensive side (lunch prices are lower). Someone else mentioned JJ's, I wasn't impressed, but it could have been a bad day. You might also try Kaimuki Grill. More of a heavy pupu menu, a little bit pricey. I thought it was OK food, but not as good as side street inn.

There are plenty of other places to eat, but those are the closest to KK. Welcome to the neighborhood.

Cafe Laufer on Waialae Avenue in Kaimuki! We are regulars there..The best coffee, desserts, salads, sandwiches. They have daily specials. Try their Pork Shank..sooo good. Owners are great people, say Hi to Cyrus and Steph !
